  • 1938

    1938, Mr Choo Cheng Meng, a young man of 20 years and skilled in furniture making, came to Singapore via Shanghai, with a group of carpenters seeking a better life.

  • 1941

    1941, Cheng Meng Furniture Company was founded by Mr Choo Cheng Meng, who established a workshop in Killiney Road, Singapore. Customers were mainly the wealthy who sought furniture of high quality for their homes.

  • 1946

    1946, After the 2nd World War the Company was re-established at 329 Clemenceau Avenue. Here was the birthplace of medium scale batch production of furniture for institutions such as the British Army.

  • 1950

    1950’s, Business expanded into the retail and entertainment markets and the beginning of interior fitting saw its roots with the fitting out of boutique shops, restaurants & night-clubs.

  • 1963

    1963, The first industrial property was acquired at 3 Kallang Pudding Road, where large scale production of furniture for luxury hotels in Singapore could be effected.

  • 1964

    1964, Following the enactment of the Registration of Companies Act, the company was converted to a Pte Ltd Company.

  • 1965

    1965, The production facility was razed down by a huge fire and from the dying embers rose the 3 storey factory, the first of its kind in the Kallang enclave, as a pioneer modern furniture factory in Singapore.

  • 1970

    1970, The business management which had remained headquartered in 329 Clemenceau Avenue moved to merge with the factory in 3 Kallang Pudding Road.

  • 1970

    1970, The first of the children of the founder, Mr Kesavan Choo Ker Yong joined the company, starting from the bottom in the role of Project Coordinator. Three other professionally qualified siblings followed suit.

  • 1989

    1989, The Company began its foray into the international market with a fit-out contract for the posh Garden Hotel in Shanghai. This was followed by jobs in Japan, Pakistan, Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia, India, Sri Lanka, Seychelles, Indonesia, Bangladesh, etc.

  • 1992

    1992, The first fitting out of a “moving” customer, the Eastern Orient Express was carried out as the first ever such work in Singapore. It was a luxurious train service plying between Singapore & Bangkok for holiday makers.

  • 1994

    1994, Established Production Facilities in Kulai, Johor, Malaysia.

  • 1995

    1995, China Presence: A 3 acre factory was acquired situated by a small river in the city of Kunshan, Jiangsu Province.

  • 1998

    1998, ISO 9002 certification was obtained.

  • 2000

    2000, Representative Office in the USA commenced.

  • 2003

    2003, The China factory moved into a larger 5-acre site in an Industrial zone in Bingxi in the outskirts of Kunshan City. At the peak more than 300 production workmen were engaged.

    2013, GreenLabel Certification on Evergain Ecobond and Plywood products.

  • 2013

    2013, ISO 14001:2004 & OHSAS 18001:2001 and bizSAFE Level Star Certification were achieved.

    2014, Set Up business in Indonesia with an office in Jakarta.

  • 2015

    2015, The New Malaysian factory in Johor begins operations.

    2018, Awarded Singapore Quality Class certification. Achieved Business Excellent award.

    2018, Shifted Malaysia Factory form previous location to Saleng, Johor.
